COMMON PROGRESS, one of the leading Greek shipping companies, has decided to install Fleet 77 terminal on ‘MV Kastor P’, in order to evaluate the innovative satellite communication system. The Thrane&Thrane Capsat Fleet77 terminal which was installed on the 23,000 dwt bulk carrier, has replaced an 18-year old Inmarsat A terminal.  
 
Pantelis Goros, ITC manager of Common Progress, who attended the installation and the trials onboard, said: “We are very pleased to install Fleet 77 on one of our vessels, as this system enables us to design and implement many applications that are going to increase the efficiency and reduce the cost of the ship-to-shore communications.”  
 
“The installation of the terminal was found to be much easier than we expected to be. For the time being, we are in the second - and the last - phase of the system’s evaluation, and as soon as the results of the tests verify our expectations, we are going to replace all the Inmarsat A terminals of our fleet with Fleet 77 terminals. It is also very encouraging to see that the crew members did not find any difficulty to adopt the new communication procedures. This is very important as we desire to take the maximum advantage of using this terminal.”  
 
Andreas Dimitriadis, Navarino’s managing director, said: “At the new era of satellite communications industry, Fleet 77 is the ideal maritime communications tool, especially for new building vessels or for vessels that are equipped with outdated Inmarsat A systems. The feedback we have is that within the next few months most of the Inmarsat A terminals will be replaced by Fleet 77 or other Fleet family products.”
