Inmarsat has announced that the final Inmarsat-4 satellite will be launched at the end of April, from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. This satellite will be the last of the three-part network that will make the FleetBroadband network fully global by adding full coverage to the Pacific Ocean Region.
Inmarsat has confirmed the launch slot on a Proton-M rocket on 28th April 2008. It will be web-streamed from Inmarsat’s website.
The April launch will be a significant milestone for the satellite communications provider as it looks forward to its next generation of services with a wide range of functions. To prepare for this new age Inmarsat has upgraded and expanded its ground –based infrastructure, including the satellite ground-station in Hawaii, which will be the main centre of control for the new I-4 satellite (after launch).
